My grandmother lived 15 miles outside of our town on a small country road in a tiny town of just 20 houses and a single church—Rickardsville, Iowa. Summers were full of sleepovers, card games, and swinging on the big porch swing under the giant weeping willow in her yard. Grasshoppers would fly through the tall grass and fields, and my grandma would always joke that she caught them and served them up to us in milkshakes.
This glass of creme de menthe–flavored ice cream swiftly takes me back to her house on warm summer days with my cousins all screaming for grasshoppers!
